Impact Assessment Coordinator
Priority given to Saugeen Ojibway Nation members.
Responsibilities
The Impact Assessment Coordinator will collaborate to review assessment needs for proposed projects in Saugeen Ojibway Territory. This is an integral role to the work conducted at the SON Environment Office. Confidentiality relating to SON Joint Council and Committees, Leadership direction, action and communications is a core trait of the position.
The Impact Assessment Coordinator will be required to complete the following tasks:
- Coordinate assessments with identified technical experts and recommend additional expertise to ensure appropriate and thorough evaluations.
- Support Impact Assessment budgeting by reviewing and verifying invoices and monitoring expenditures against approved budgets.
- Notify the Department Manager of any budget discrepancies or financial concerns.
- Provide regular project status reports to the Department Manager and prepare updates for Joint Council and relevant advisory committees.
- Support the technical team in implementing SON’s consultation process, ensuring the Duty to Consult is appropriately scoped and fulfilled.
- Work with the Communications team to support community engagement strategy, community sessions and communication activities with SON members.
- Attend project engagement and outreach activities and prepare summary reports for Joint Council and SON membership.
- Coordinate with project proponents on technical matters, including environmental assessments, field studies, project design, and engineering.
- Organize and attend meetings between SON Environment Office, Project Advisory Committees, Joint Council, and proponent.
- Track project timelines and ensure key milestones and deliverables are communicated with Advisory and milestones met.
- Monitor and manage expenditures and workplans in accordance with approved project funding agreements.
- Work with the Financial Coordinator to ensure accuracy of expenditure reports.
- Assist in developing future project funding agreements and workplans.
- Provide project analysis, technical input, and recommendations to Management, Advisory and Joint Council as required.
- Coordinate and attend meetings between SON EO/Project Advisory Committee/Joint Council and Proponent.
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a technical-related field of study or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with/within a First Nations government
- Minimum 3 years of project coordination experience
- Knowledge of SON rights, Territory, and culture
- Understanding of the duty to consult and accommodate. Knowledge of FPIC, IAAC, UNDRIP and related Canadian law considered an asset
- Experience working with or within Provincial/Federal governments considered an asset
- Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle
