Nawash Fisheries Releases Report on the Decline of Lake Whitefish

Community Dialogue Addressing Declines in Dikameg (Lake Whitefish) - Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry

Introduction

"Dikameg (Lake Whitefish) are experiencing significant declines over the last 10-15 years. The cause for the declines is still not fully understood. The Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON), the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (NDMRNF) and many others are doing research to understand why dikameg are declining. It is likely that action will be required before we fully understand all the factors behind the decline. The issues facing dikameg are likely complex and therefore multiple solutions will be needed to halt the decline."
